Welcome to Rebel Collective, we can’t wait to learn more about you. We approach rigorous Classical Pilates teacher training differently. Our comprehensive approach centers you, by delivering tools that give you ownership over the process. We are dedicated to helping you and supporting you while you learn this complex system. This approach ensures that upon graduation you’ve harnessed your unique voice, with our support, in a way that makes you a safe and effective classical instructor ready to build a career in a more diverse Pilates industry.

We understand that choosing your education partner is more than finding a place to learn, it is an investment in your personal and financial future.

Rebel Pilates Collective teacher training spans nine seminar weekends. Topics of study include and are not limited to, ethics, professionalism, pathologies, anatomy, alignment protocols, comprehensive exercises on all apparatus, safety, tactile cueing, common alignment patterns, building blocks, challenges, modifications, variations as well as beginner, intermediate, and advanced classical exercises as taught by Mr. Pilates to his elders and clients.

At RPC you will learn exercises on all of the apparatus typically found in fully equipped studios today. We place value on the teachings specific to Mr. Pilates including variations and versions of his exercises that he taught to his elders, Romana Kryzanowska, Eve Gentry, Carola Trier, Kathy Grant and others. We value the varied nuances of Mr. Pilates teachings above all else and seek to apply the work by ‘teaching the human in front us’ just as Mr. Pilates did.

By introducing all of these varied opportunities to approach an exercise in the ‘Classical’, ‘Original’ or ‘Authentic’ Pilates system, our graduates are equipped to teach huge swaths of the population by applying the version best for their future client.

In addition to transcending ‘elder lineage’ we have also evolved some of the movement practices employed by Mr. Pilates that have been proven to be unsafe or inaccurate through the advancement of scientific research since Mr. Pilates’ death. We believe that he too would have adapted his method to employ current medical research and movement science should he have lived long enough. As such, we believe we can both honor his legacy system of movement and exercise, Contrology, as well as keep your future clients safe in your care.

Comprehensive Classical Pilates Teacher training

Timing, what to expect:

  • Many students complete their course in one year, this is the fastest track possible.

  • For those who need to take longer, there is no penalty for needing to extend the time in which it takes to complete your training program. We are flexible to your needs during your time as a student and apprentice.

  • You may make up seminar weekends anytime, any place.

  • You are invited to audit any seminar weekend anywhere, as many times as you like, with no fee.

  • You may test when you are ready with no hidden penalties or having to pay to rejoin the program.

  • Independent study, or ‘homework’ is a large part Pilates education courses. As an RPC student you will complete 600 hours of observation, guided practice and teaching all broken down for you in an easy to use digital log. Should you wish to graduate in twelve months, you can plan on ~12 hours of study each week for one year. Should you take longer to complete these hours and to graduate we will provide continued support along your entire journey. Our students are encouraged to participate in their guided practice hours with teachers they are drawn too and motived by, rather than the industry standard practice of requiring students to take individual sessions from teachers they may or may not desire to work with. We trust our students to seek those who they feel inspired by and provide autonomy to leave situations that are not right for you. You should feel supported in all aspects of the required elements of your coursework, including who you observe, and who you practice with.

Other considerations:

  • We highly recommend that you acquaint yourself with the fundamentals of the practice of Pilates and allocate at least 75 hours to taking Pilates sessions or classes on your own prior to your first training weekend.

  • Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2 at a college level or equivalent before the practicum. We have a course that meets this requirement - see our registration email  for information on The Lab | Anatomy or see our FAQ page for a way to do the anatomy requirement for free.

  • Reading Requirements & Suggestions: Return to Life by Joseph Pilates is required reading. RTL is in the public domain and can be found here for free. Titles written by Blandine Calais-Germain, especially Anatomy of Movement are helpful supplements to your anatomy journey. The Anatomy Trail Guide is a valuable anatomy text and can assist a beginner teacher in recognizing and recruiting particular muscles and muscle groups.

testing:

  • We assess our students at three intervals, after System I, after System II and after System III. Students will also complete a multiple choice quiz at System II. Combined, we refer to these components as our “Practicum”.

  • Each assesment consists of two recorded sessions of our students teaching the mat and reformer associated with each system and an in-person assessment on the rest of the apparatus.

  • Our students can take their level assessments when they have completed the associated modules and study hours for each of the three systems.

  • Our students record their videos and schedule their in-person assessments as they become ready with no penalty or expiry on their program enrollment.

  • We have a multi-layer grading oversight process, ensuring all students recieve the same grading consideration and meet the same program standards. Students can test with any faculty member.

Other costs:

  • Practicing Pilates yourself will be part of your independent study. The cost of Pilates classes or sessions will depend on where you do Pilates and how (class, semi-private, private). We allow our students to do their personal Pilates practice in the studio of their choice with any comprehensively certified teacher.

  • RPC allows apprentices to work together to greatly reduce this expense.

  • Audits and make-ups are free for life.

  • Host studios provide limited observation and practice space for all of their students for free, if one is near a host studio, there can be no additional fees for observation and practice. If you are a ‘remote student’ and travel in to your host, connecting to a local studio in your area wil be required. Negotiating potential fees with them could be a cost you will need to consider for your independent study hours. Not all studios will charge you but they may.

“Learning how to understand and recognize postural alignment in a body really helped me understand Pilates as a uniform system, as well as how to organize a flow and have intentional cueing. RPC taught me that!”

— Happy Student Whitney S., obtaining her 2nd certification with PBTT

What’s next?

Once you complete registration you will receive a welcome email explaining the next steps. Your manuals will be waiting for you when you arrive on the first day.  And remember, once a student, always a student. We encourage students to audit modules throughout the program and after graduation. This auditing process takes zero extra financial investment on your part and is an investment we make in you. We invest in our collective by keeping continued development accessible.

We look forward to meeting you and beginning this journey together!
